Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education
An enterprising approach to self-evaluation is designed to support you to reflect on and evaluate your centre’s performance. The resource is flexible and easy to use so that you can self-evaluate in whatever way you find most useful.
It is in two main sections, a directory of resources and an interactive programme that supports self-evaluation using a range of quality indicators and criteria. The resources section provides links to useful websites and web-based documents. The self-evaluation section lets you evaluate provision using quality indicators from HMIe’s ‘How Good is Our School’ and the four Curriculum for Excellence capacities.
You can choose to focus on enterprise and education, or take a more general approach using core QIs. You then select a QI or capacity to assess. Next you position statement cards onto the section of the board that best represents your performance.
The resource builds a report showing your strengths and areas for improvement. You can enter evidence to support your self-evaluation, either as the report builds or later after you’ve saved it. Once you’ve completed an evaluation you can save your report as a Word file in the usual way. You can then edit and use it for further development.
The self-evaluation section also enables you to create your own customised version of the resource, allowing you to use the same process with another key aspect of your choice. The resource generates a board and blank cards in PowerPoint, onto which you can type statements to suit the focus of your self-evaluation.
However you choose to use it, the resource will support your centre’s strategy for continuous improvement through self-evaluation. Users will recognise the potential for the resource to be developed and used with learners of all ages. The enterprising approach it promotes reflects key design principles of Curriculum for Excellence and supports innovation.
