Transcript: Fostering relationships

Female: I was worried that the game would become too competitive, that there would be kind of fallings out and it would become a negative experience, but it hasn’t. We’ve also used Sing Star, and when we put Sing Star on, although two were holding the microphones, everyone’s standing around. We project it onto the white board, the whole class is standing round singing and encouraging everybody. So the PSD and the feel good factor in the classroom has been great, and that’s been a very positive thing, particularly this end of Primary 7.

Child: When we actually play guitar here I think it really helps us as a class, because like everybody’s always like cheering each other on and things. So it’s like it’s really good, and it’s a really nice feeling to be playing and like doing well.

Child: And everyone’s cheering.

Child: And everybody saying, 'Oh well done, that was really good.'

Child Like, oh yeah, well done, whoo!

Child: And even, even if like maybe you're not that good at it, like people still like have a joke, like nobody’s going, 'Oh, ha ha, you did rubbish,' or anything. So it’s really, a really good feeling whether you’re good or not I think.

Child: I was surprised when I heard about that they were bringing video games into school because it just doesn’t seem very school like. I mean …

Child: It’s like two different worlds isn’t it?

Child: I know, it’s like …

Child: It’s like your world at home where you play like Playstation computer games and like you just do it for fun, but then …

Child: And like learning from it, yay [laughs].

Child: Yes, seeing it like in … like it’s like joining both like sort of worlds together.

Child: But when you’re playing it everyone just cheers you on, even though you’re just like … I think I got one note one song, one [laughs], and like everybody, everyone would just keep cheering you on. Like 'Yeah, keep trying, go for it.'

Child: Guitar Hero was really good because it linked everything together and it made people work as a group, and that was really good, because we normally don’t do that well, we don’t like each other, some of us so … well, I like that sort of music anyway, so it was really, really good. Because normally the music go on in class is the majority and that’s normally the poppy stuff. But I think everyone really started to appreciate all types of music, and that was really good because there’s been less arguments hasn’t there?

Child: Yeah.

Child: Usually like there’s nerds and rockers and that, and that seemed to have all gone away because it’s …

Child: Yeah.

Child: And I think it does help it, or was it just we all do, I don’t know? I’m saying it was a product.

Child: Yeah.
