Transcript: Carmen Jackal

… which is Irish, County Clare. Both her parents have been musicians and from an early age she’s been involved in music, so that’s what she did with the rest of her life. On September 3rd 1990 in County Clare is Carmen ... (unclear) ... Jackal to parents Diane and Maurice Jackal, both famous musicians. Carmen has been surrounded by music since her birth. As an only child she inevitably got used to getting her own way. At the age of 5 she was a grade 3 pianist and was playing the simple works of Mozart and Bach. Her parents saw her musical ability and bought Carmen her first 6 string acoustic guitar. She quickly fell in love the guitar and named it Jessie. By the age of 7 she was playing classical guitar and writing her own songs. Her very first song, Playing it Solo, can be found on her father’s seventh album, Grapple Hook, which quickly soured to number one in the UK and Japanese, peaking at number two in the US. Growing up rubbing shoulders with the biggest name in music shaped her future career path by a long way. Continuing to play, guitar and singing, Carmen eventually released her debut album with her band, Full Moon, Driving Through the Fog. All the … sorry. All the band members in Full Moon have been friends with Carmen since at least primary school. Driving Through the Fog took the world by storm with its meaningful lyrics, heavy riffs and young female singer. Soon after its release a world tour was arranged. On Carmen’s birthday, while she was on tour with Full Moon, both of her parents passed away in a tragic plane crash. How Carmen felt about the incident spurred many of the lyrics behind her follow up album, Moonlit Crash. The band is currently on tour promoting Moonlit Crash and Carmen Jackal has continued to write some of the best material this century has ever seen.
