Education Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Government and local authority colleagues, established a 16+ Learning Choices National Network to support local authorities and their partners in implementing the 16+ LC model and to ensure it is embedded within Curriculum for Excellence planning and delivery.

This network is open to all 32 local authorities and is attended by 16+ Learning Choices Co-ordinators and representatives from other key partners such as Skills Development Scotland, Scotland’s Colleges, SQA, Youthlink and Volunteer Development Scotland.

The network meets four times a year to share experiences and explore solutions to any concerns that arose in the run-up to full implementation in December 2010. The network meetings have offered delegates the opportunity to learn about upcoming strategic developments, share practice and identify successes and support needs. The agendas for network meetings have addressed relevant key topics, for example:

  • Effective partnership working
  • Evaluating impact and outcome
  • Data sharing
  • Early identification and intervention
  • Tracking and monitoring
  • Activity agreements
  • Curriculum for Excellence - senior phase
  • Matching provision to needs
  • Information, advice and guidance
  • Financial support.
