Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is considered to be a developmental disorder. It affects about five per cent of school-aged children, with symptoms starting before seven years of age. Symptoms are characterised by attention difficulties, impulsiveness and, in the case of ADHD, hyperactivity. Boys are more likely to be affected than girls.
