The Glencorse water project will provide a new treatment works to bring 175 million litres of clean, safe water per day to 450,000 people in Edinburgh.

Scottish Water's senior project manager Kenny Naylor explains how they need to remove the dirt and bacteria from the water to make it suitable for drinking.

Project manager Lynsey Tweedie explains how Scottish water took an innovative approach to the construction by bringing the pipe manufacture on site, thus saving a million lorry miles in transportation from Scandinavia.

Other environmentally-friendly aspects to the project are the incorporation of a hydro-turbine to use the water itself to generate some of the power needed to run the water treatment works, and the building has been covered with the largest grass-covered roof in Europe to help hide the plant from people enjoying the landscape of the Pentlands Hills.

The project has involved a huge number of people from a wide range of engineering and other professions from all over the world.
