The Flood planning geography learning journey gives ideas for learning and teaching about geography knowledge and skills in the context of flooding.
In this journey, learners build up knowledge and skills through a curriculum focus in social studies. The lesson ideas allow them to see the purpose and relevance of learning about flooding, interactions between humans and the environment and allow them to learn about using specialised maps in an authentic context. This learning context would provide rich opportunities for planning for interdisciplinary learning with other departments. An engineering challenge could be incorporated into interdisciplinary learning allowing learners to see the relevance of knowledge, understanding and skills developed in geography to informing planning relating to engineering projects.
There are rich opportunities to work with partners in this journey by inviting in someone from a local business or local authority to help learners gain insights into how they plan for dealing with issues such as flooding.
This learning journey is also available in Word format to allow you to add to, adapt or change the resource and create your own learning journeys.
