The Wind, wave and tidal learning journey is for learning and teaching relating to the learning context of renewables.
A Scottish island, such as Eigg, and their quest to use only renewable energy to generate electricity could be used to contextualise the learning.
In this journey, learners build up knowledge and skills through a curriculum focus on technologies. Lessons give learners experiences and opportunities to develop their understanding of the implications for society of using renewable sources as a way of harnessing energy and opportunities to plan, design, make, test and adapt working models. This learning context provides rich opportunities for planning for interdisciplinary learning with other departments such as sciences and geography.
There are rich opportunities to work with partners in this journey by inviting in a STEM ambassador or someone from a local business to help learners gain insights into the world of work.
This learning journey is also available in Word format to allow you to add to, adapt or change the resource and create your own learning journeys.

When listening and talking with others for different purposes, I can:
A short film exploring how energy is produced from wind, waves and tides in Scotland.
Online activity to enhance learners' understanding of the importance of renewable energy to replace fossil fuels in generating electricity.
Supporting resources for the learning experiences in the Wind, wave and tidal power learning journey.
The context for these challenges is that of a small community living on an island and its efforts to turn to renewable sources of energy.
