
This island is going renewable learning journey is for learning and teaching relating to the learning context of using renewable energy. A Scottish island, such as Eigg, and their quest to use only renewable energy to generate electricity could be used to contextualise the learning.
In this journey, learners build up knowledge and skills through a curriculum focus on social subjects. The learning experiences suggested allow the learners to develop their understanding of the possible consequences of burning fossil fuels and to make informed suggestions about ways to manage the impact. They are also given opportunities to develop skills in using maps and geographical information systems to gather, interpret and present data relating to location of renewable technologies.
There are rich opportunities to work with partners in this journey by inviting in someone from a local business to help learners gain insights into the world of work.
