Duncanrig Radio takes over the airwaves

Pupils from Duncanrig Secondary School have been taking the radio airwaves by storm with their very own enterprising radio project. As a teacher in the Communication Support Base (CSB), for pupils with autism spectrum disorders, Chris Gerrard set up the radio club as an ideal way of supporting inclusion in a realistic and fun setting.

The club is a mixture of pupils from mainstream and the base. As well as writing and performing their own shows on Camglen Radio, the pupils have received coaching from some of the country’s top radio presenters. Pupils have also pre- recorded shows for the school canteen and during last session, ran sessions teaching staff how to podcast. The project has also involved working with pupils with more complex autism, giving them the opportunity to use the radio studio to work on different aspects of speech and language.
