Seminar Description

This seminar will share two Innovative Online Blog projects:

Keith Memory Blog http://keithmemoryblog.wordpress.com/

Moray Heritage Memory Project http://wrvsmorayheritagememories.wordpress.com/

The adaptable easy-to-edit nature of a Wordpress blog has allowed the creation of rich multimedia online resources of historical information for use by schools, the wider Moray community and beyond.

Several Moray schools have been involved in a variety of ways including interviewing/reading/ listening to the submissions, drawing artefacts, recording the memories and adding memories to the website via an online form or blog dashboard. The inter-generational nature of the project has enabled the older people to feel their thoughts are valued and the children to appreciate the rich heritage they have in Scotland particularly within older members of their local community.

By using the above projects the seminar will share examples of

  • young people embracing the core inter-generational aspects of the project
  • where young people have been able to see how learning has transformed the lives and experiences of older people in their own community
  • young people engaged in high quality learning experiences utilizing a wide range of interdisciplinary skills
  • schools working in partnership with their local community
  • young people engaged in extensive online research and using local heritage resources to understand how past education/events/decisions shape people’s future working lives.
