Blast from the Past - Scottish history project

Blast from the past studio

Blast from the Past brought together the business education, computing and history departments of Dunoon Grammar School (DGS). Pupils were empowered with the responsibility to use cutting-edge multimedia technology to plan and produce a video focusing on the Scottish Wars of Independence.

Pupils researched key figures and events from the wars in depth and then used this information to prepare a television news show. The show, set in a modern virtual television studio, involved figures from the wars (including William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Edward I) being brought into the studio to be interviewed, thanks to a virtual time-machine.

A range of ICT resources were used by the pupils - to plan, record, edit, produce and broadcast their show.

Pupils enjoyed the active 'hands-on' approach of this initiative, as well as the responsibility and freedom given to them throughout. They found this challenging although it allowed them to develop a wide range of skills.
