Northfield Academy sent in the following details of its Homecoming activities...
We celebrated Burns through a special assembly for all S1 and S3 pupils. A local theatre group called Baudrans Productions Theatre Company performed the life of Burns followed by some of their own S1 and S3 pupils who worked with them on a presentation of Tam O'Shanter.
About 45 pupils drawn from S1 and S3 classes worked with the theatre company for two days in workshop activities to prepare for their dramatisation. In addition pupils from these years studied aspects of related Scottish culture in History and Music.
The Home Economics department focused on Scottish cookery during that week with a wall display to illustrate. The canteen also continued the Scottish theme during that week offering a range of traditional Scottish food.
The English and RME department have built on the work done on Tam O' Shanter by focusing on Myths and Legends.
Throughout the rest of the session some departments will get pupils to research famous Scots relevant to their subject area. A second year Maths class has already done some investigation on famous Mathematicians. This will contribute to an interdisciplinary theme - 'Great Scot' The plan is to present the different great Scots and get pupils to vote on who they think is the greatest 'Great Scot'.
