Auchtermuchty Primary School sent in the following details about its Homecoming activities...
The whole school took part in a Scottish afternoon in January. This included Scottish poetry recitations, singing Scottish songs and Scottish Country dancing. We were all encouraged to wear some tartan.
Health and wellbeing
After the October holiday our PE focus for the next month was Scottish country dancing. Children from P1 to P7 learned a range of dances and then we went to the Fife Scottish Country Dance Festival in Glenrothes for a giant ceilidh with live music. Some of our parents and carers came along to help out and we all had a fantastic time.
Enterprise
Primary 6 organised and hosted our annual Burns Supper. The children learned Scottish songs, dances and poetry to entertain their guests and learned all about what a Burns Supper should look like. They invited all their parents and carers to the celebration. They also invited the children from each class who had won the Burns recitation competition, their parents and carers and all the school staff. One of the dads piped in the haggis and our School Cook made a great meal for us all to enjoy. For a special treat we had Irn Bru to drink during the meal and for the toasts. It was a great Burns Supper.
Literacy
Every child in the school was encouraged to learn a Scottish poem to recite to their class and teachers. Two children from each class, who recited their poem particularly well, were invited to our Burns Supper. At the Burns Supper they entertained us all with their wonderful recitations.
