As part of 2009’s Homecoming celebrations, Learning and Teaching Scotland launched the ‘Great Scots’ competition, open to children and young people in primary and secondary schools across the country.
The aim of the competition was to engage learners in the social history, culture and achievements of our nation by producing drawings of the people they considered to be ‘Great Scots’. The competition generated over 1700 entries.
The variety and standard of entries was highly impressive and as a result Learning and Teaching Scotland used all the submitted drawings to create a limited edition poster to celebrate our Great Scots - the image at the top of the page.

The sheer breadth and variety of the entries displayed above highlights the impact Scotland has made on such diverse areas as literary culture, politics, industry, business, science and sport, proving that there have been inspirational Scots from all walks of life.
