Scottish Opera primary school tours

Scottish Opera

Scottish Opera's annual Primary Schools Tour is one of our longest established and most popular education programmes.

Each tour helps teachers all over Scotland deliver aspects of Curriculum for Excellence for P5-P7 pupils. As well as making learning exciting, challenging and creative, it allows up to 100 pupils to participate in a high-quality, day-long music theatre workshop.

Each school that participates in a tour receives:

  • high-quality teaching resources, including a teaching pack and CD to help teach and introduce the music and related activities
  • an advance visit from a specialist choral musician
  • a day-long workshop with a team of highly experienced arts education specialists and performers
  • a performance for family, friends and schoolmates to share, with full technical support, costumes and props.

Scottish Opera workshops for secondary schools

Scottish Opera

In Autumn 2010, Scottish Opera's piano-accompanied production of Carmen is visiting theatres, community centres and village halls across Scotland.

Pupils from secondary schools will be taking part in workshops linked to Curriculum for Excellence, led by Scottish Opera staff.

These workshops are designed to explore the music, characters and background to the opera.

Pupils will also see the production in their local venue, giving them the chance to see everything they’ve learned live on stage performed by professional singers.

Hitting the High Notes

Hitting the High Notes is a CPD programme for primary school teachers. Unlock your creativity!

You don't have to love opera or be a singer to take part. We'll help you to develop your own creativity, giving you the confidence to use the arts as a creative tool for learning and teaching.

A composer, a singer, a drama animateur and a film-maker will inspire you to use the different elements that make up opera to deliver Curriculum for Excellence to your pupils.

The two-day courses (in March and May 2010) are FREE and take place in the Scottish Opera Production Studios in Glasgow. Those attending the course will also receive a ticket for a Scottish Opera performance.
