King's Park Primary School

King’s Park Primary School is one of the largest primary schools in Midlothian, with over 400 pupils, and two P7 classes. Profiling already takes place on an ongoing basis, with pupils’ achievements being recorded in target booklets, assessment folders, displays, photographic records, transition documentation and at celebration assemblies, and children are regularly encouraged to reflect on their learning.

The process of regular profiling helps learners to articulate what they have learned and how they have learned. Parents share in their children’s successes at assemblies, open days, active maths mornings, meet the teacher sessions and numerous other opportunities. The annual pupil report documents achievements and curricular levels, as well as highlighting next steps.

It is clear that the pupils have ownership of their profiles. The profile illustrates that pupils are beginning to reflect on their learning and focus on their best achievements. The profile would benefit from the skills developed being described in greater detail. The inclusion of levels would provide further information concerning the learner’s achievement and progress.
