Clober Primary School has strong links with Douglas Academy, to which almost all of the children transfer at the end of P7. There is a well developed programme of primary secondary liaison between all schools in the Douglas Academy cluster. Clober P7 pupils have opportunities to work with the teaching staff from Douglas Academy during the year through various liaison activities.
At present, the school implements ‘learning journeys’ to record pupil progress and achievement. Pupils are very involved in their use and are becoming more confident in identifying and recording their achievements within and outside the school.
The ‘learning journeys’ are shared with parents at the beginning and end of each term (the school is organised around three terms). Parents are invited to comment on the targets their child has set for each term across literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing and on their progress and development at the end of each term. Plans are also in place for informal meetings with parents and pupils in the third term where the ‘learning journey’ will provide a focus for discussion.
Primary 7 pupils at present are involved in producing a primary 7 pupil profile which is included in the transition paperwork shared with Douglas Academy. The format for this profile developed by Clober Primary has been adopted by all primary schools in the cluster group and will be used for discussion about moderation with the Secondary.
The profile illustrates a good emphasis on moderation to support teacher’s judgement.
It is beginning to convey breadth, challenge and application with pupil reflection on application of skills.
Further work will be undertaken on how best to engage with parents.
