Key features - broad general education
- First year is a transition year with all experiences and outcomes delivered.
- Interdisciplinary learning is planned through natural linkages between curriculum areas.
- General phase runs for 18 months from beginning of the second year to the end of December in the third year.
- 'General plus' runs from January-June of third year and provides for ‘masterclass’ sessions.
- Subjects will not be eliminated – choice will be within curriculum areas.
- All programmes of study cover all curriculum areas until the end of S3.
Senior phase
- Senior 1 will be mainly students from the fourth year.
- Senior 2 will be mainly students from the fifth year.
- Senior 3 and Senior 4 are designed to meet the needs of the sixth year cohort.
- Senior 4 pupils could change timetable in January of S6.
- Pupils will choose a number of subjects in the senior phase – the decision on whether this will be five or six subjects has not yet been made.
- Not all learners will sit an external examination at the end of Senior 1, most will progress to Higher, via a National 5 course in S4.
