Scottish education recognises the importance of high quality career-long professional learning. Research suggests that there are four interrelated processes that support professional growth and transformation of practice:
- reflection on practice
- experiential learning
- cognitive development
- collaborative learning.
This model maps out these four elements. It provides the basis for planning learning and should also be used by those who design or lead professional learning to ensure that the four elements come together in high quality professional learning activities.
Practitioners and providers should visit our Career-long Professional Learning resource for the latest guidance.
PLFind offers practitioners a place to find out about professional learning opportunities. It also offers providers the chance to highlight the professional learning they offer. Please note that while providers’ references are checked, Education Scotland does not endorse any professional learning activity and cannot accept any responsibility for the quality of the activity or provider.
