National Parent Conference 2010

Michael Russell, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, opened the conference as well as taking part in a question and answer session with parents.

The Forum has demonstrated that geographical problems can be overcome and by smarter thinking can use the available technology to reach as many parents as possible. The feedback from parents on the day was that they had got a lot out of the day and were now empowered to ask the right questions of their children's schools and were more aware of the changes that Curriculum for Excellence will bring. The day was well attended and has set the benchmark for the Forum to carry the voice of parents in education forward. The conference was only possible with the hard work and determination of an exceptional team who cannot be praised highly enough for delivering a professional and effective day. Thank you, team.
Gerry McTiernan, Chair, National Parent Forum of Scotland

Mike Russell also announced that Scottish Government wanted to work with the Forum on the consultation on the 'school handbook' to improve information that parents are entitled to receive about their school and the education it provides for its pupils.

Closing the conference

David Cameron, former President of Education Scotland, closed the conference. There were live links to Orkney and Shetland, which were hosting parallel conferences.
