CPD materials to support profiling

The materials in this section are aimed at supporting practitioners in the development of P7 and S3 profiles.

Your starting point for the development of your own profile is the document: Building the Curriculum 5: A Framework for Assessment: Recognising Achievement, Profiling and Reporting.

You might want to consider this document at a school, cluster or local authority in-service event.

The attached PowerPoint presentation might be useful for a CPD event about profiling.

When you start to develop P7 profiles, you may find the attached criteria helpful in designing your own portfolio. You could adapt these criteria for S3 profiling.

Activity

Suggested activity to support understanding amongst a group of practitioners

Step 1 – individual reading and reflective thinking

Split the full group into smaller groups and ask participants to read only one section of the document. Ensure that the entire document is being read by the group. For example:

  • Person A – pages 3 to 7
  • Person B – pages 8 to 12
  • Person C – pages 13 to 16 (up to end of second last paragraph)
  • Person D – pages 16 (beginning of final paragraph) to page 19.

As they read they should consider the key messages in their section.

Step 2 – group sharing

Members of the group share the key messages from the section they read.

Step 3 – convergent thinking

Ask the group to consider the similarities of all the responses shared and then to list up to five key messages.

Step 4 - divergent thinking

Ask the group to consider the interconnectedness of recognising achievement, profiling and reporting. How might these key messages impact on the development of P7 profiles?

Step 5 – large group feedback

Each of the small groups should share with the larger group two of their key messages and how they feel this will impact on the development of the profiles.
