Outdoor learning - lessons learned

It is good practice to review outdoor learning incidents or near misses and to share any lessons learned with others. The recording of incidents can encourage a healthy culture of openness and discussion together with an opportunity to analyse events without seeking to attribute blame or responsibility. Teachers, leaders and participants should record significant events so they that they, and others, can learn from their experiences.

Evolution of practice

Despite the use of established operating methods accidents or near misses may still occur. In rare situations, it may be that a combination of circumstances or events have arisen which test established practice in unforeseen ways. By sharing lessons learned, those involved in outdoor learning can learn from the experiences of others.
