Doric
Doric is the name given to the group of Scots dialects in the North East of Scotland.
Taking in a wide geographical area including Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray and parts of Angus, the Doric spoken in Aberdeen differs from that used in Banff and is different again from Peterhead, Laurencekirk and Arbroath. Even places only a few miles apart like Buckie and Keith or Fraserburgh and Inverallochy can have different pronunciation and vocabulary.
The people of the North East are fiercely proud of Doric. This animation, celebrating the local dialect, was made by pupils at Riverbank Primary School, Aberdeen.
